Wide-Area Traffic: The Failure of Poisson Modeling

by Vern Paxson, Sally Floyd - IEEE/ACM TRANSACTIONS ON NETWORKING , 1995
"... Network arrivals are often modeled as Poisson processes for analytic simplicity, even though a number of traffic studies have shown that packet interarrivals are not exponentially distributed. We evaluate 24 wide-area traces, investigating a number of wide-area TCP arrival processes (session and con ..."

Elde edilen sonuçlara gore, hesaplanan magnitüd-frekans ilişkisindeki a ve b değerleri 3.10±0.24-5.29±0.52 and 0.39±0.03-0.73±0.08 aralığında bulunmuştur.

Poisson Model of Spike Generation

by David Heeger, Professor David Heeger , 2000
"... ring rate to be very large at particular moments in time so that the probability of firing would then be arbitrarily close to 1. Certain features of neuronal firing, however, violate the independent spike hypothesis. Following the generation of an action potential, there is an interval of time know ..."

Below, I present ways of extending the Poisson model to account for refractoriness and bursting. 1 Probability and Random Processes A random variable is a number assigned to every outcome

The Bivariate 2-Poisson model for IR

by Giambattista Amati, Giorgio Gambosi
"... Harter’s 2-Poisson model of Information Retrieval is a univariate model of the raw term frequencies, that does not condition the probabilities on document length [2]. A bivariate stochastic model is thus introduced to extend Harter’s 2-Poisson model, by conditioning the term frequencies of the docum ..."

Poisson Surface Reconstruction

by Michael Kazhdan, Matthew Bolitho, Hugues Hoppe , 2006
"... We show that surface reconstruction from oriented points can be cast as a spatial Poisson problem. This Poisson formulation considers all the points at once, without resorting to heuristic spatial partitioning or blending, and is therefore highly resilient to data noise. Unlike radial basis function ..."

On a Vlasov-Schrödinger-Poisson model

by Naoufel Ben Abdallah, Florian Méhats
"... Weak solutions of a Vlasov-Schrödinger-Poisson system are shown to exist in the stationary and time-dependent situations. This system models the transport and interaction of electrons in a bidimensional electron gas. The particles are assumed to have a wave behaviour in the confinement directions (z ..."

by Nathan A. Baker, David Sept, Simpson Joseph, Michael J. Holst, J. Andrew Mccammon - Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA , 2001
"... Evaluation of the electrostatic properties of biomolecules has become a standard practice in molecular biophysics. Poisson models for extended target and group tracking

by Kevin Gilholm , Simon Godsill , Simon Maskell , David Salmond , 2005
"... It is common practice to represent a target group (or an extended target) as set of point sources and attempt to formulate a tracking filter by constructing possible assignments between measurements and the sources. We suggest an alternative approach that produces a measurement model (likelihood) in ..."

) in terms of the spatial density of measurements over the sensor observation region. In particular, the measurements are modelled as a Poisson process with a spatially dependent rate parameter. This representation allows us to model extended targets as an intensity distribution rather than a set of points
