Industrial Internship Programme At Universiti Teknologi Petronas - A Collaboration Strategy That Enhanced Students' Soft Skills In The Ever-Changing Technology

by Halabi Hasbullah, Suziah Sulaiman , 2002
"... The Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) curriculum was designed to contain substantial practical experiences. `Learning-by-doing' approach is used allowing students to apply the theories into applications. This ability is known as hard technical skill. The university also provide opportunities ..."

Universal coalgebra: a theory of systems

by J. J. M. M. Rutten , 2000
"... In the semantics of programming, nite data types such as finite lists, have traditionally been modelled by initial algebras. Later final coalgebras were used in order to deal with in finite data types. Coalgebras, which are the dual of algebras, turned out to be suited, moreover, as models for certa ..."

On Distinguishing Epistemic from Pragmatic Action

by David Kirsh, Paul Maglio - Cognitive Science , 1994
"... We present data and argument to show that in Tetris-a real-time, interactive video game-certain cognitive and perceptual problems ore more quicktv, easily, and reliably solved by performing actions in the world than by performing com-putational actions in the head atone. We have found that some of t ..."

of the translations and rotations made by players of this video game are best understood as actions that use the world to improve cognition. These actions are not used to implement a plan, or to implement a reaction; they are used to change the world in order to simplify the problem-solving task. Thus, we distinguish

Metaheuristics in combinatorial optimization: Overview and conceptual comparison

"... We present a system that can reconstruct 3D geometry from large, unorganized collections of photographs such as those found by searching for a given city (e.g., Rome) on Internet photo-sharing sites. Our system is built on a set of new, distributed computer vision algorithms for image matching and ..."

Dynamic Computations in Ever-Changing Networks Invited Talk Abstract ∗

by Idit Keidar
"... This talk focuses on dynamic computations (sometimes called live, on-going, continuous, or stabilizing), which continuously adapt their output to reflect input and network topology changes. Three specific examples are discussed: continuous weighted matching, live monitoring, and peer sampling (also ..."

Such computations are of interest in ever-changing networks, where the network topology itself (nodes and links) constantly changes, as do the inputs to the computation, e.g., sensor reads. Everchanging networks occur in many settings nowadays, including ad-hoc, vehicular

The purpose of the paper is to investigate the technological innovative characteristics in the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) belonging to the Italian manufacturing sector. A survey based on e-mail and fax questionnaire of 285 SMEs was conducted with a response rate of about 45%. The methodology consisted in a descriptive analysis on general data and in a discriminant analysis on data related to the innovative activity and aimed at determine the factors distinguishing more and less innovative companies. On the basis of this survey, the innovative profile of SMEs has been highlighted as well as the factors and problems of the innovative process analyzed. The results show that innovative firms are market anticipation and customer focused, aiming at product enrichment in terms of different characteristics in respect to competitors ’ products in order to obtain a superior product in terms of quality. Innovation results to be part of their
