Moses: Open Source Toolkit for Statistical Machine Translation
- ACL
, 2007
"... We describe an open-source toolkit for statistical machine translation whose novel contributions are (a) support for linguistically motivated factors, (b) confusion network decoding, and (c) efficient data formats for translation models and language models. In addition to the SMT decoder, the toolki ..."

Diagnosing multiple faults.
- Artificial Intelligence,
, 1987
"... Abstract Diagnostic tasks require determining the differences between a model of an artifact and the artifact itself. The differences between the manifested behavior of the artifact and the predicted behavior of the model guide the search for the differences between the artifact and its model. The ..."

in the domain of troubleshooting digital circuits. This research makes several novel contributions: First, the system diagnoses failures due to multiple faults. Second, failure candidates are represented and manipulated in terms of minimal sets of violated assumptions, resulting in an efficient diagnostic
MonoSLAM: Realtime single camera SLAM
- IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence
, 2007
"... Abstract—We present a real-time algorithm which can recover the 3D trajectory of a monocular camera, moving rapidly through a previously unknown scene. Our system, which we dub MonoSLAM, is the first successful application of the SLAM methodology from mobile robotics to the “pure vision ” domain of ..."

of a single uncontrolled camera, achieving real time but drift-free performance inaccessible to Structure from Motion approaches. The core of the approach is the online creation of a sparse but persistent map of natural landmarks within a probabilistic framework. Our key novel contributions include
Functional discovery via a compendium of expression profiles.

Dynamic Bayesian Networks: Representation, Inference and Learning
, 2002
"... Modelling sequential data is important in many areas of science and engineering. Hidden Markov models (HMMs) and Kalman filter models (KFMs) are popular for this because they are simple and flexible. For example, HMMs have been used for speech recognition and bio-sequence analysis, and KFMs have bee ..."

sequential data.
In particular, the main novel technical contributions of this thesis are as follows: a way of representing
Hierarchical HMMs as DBNs, which enables inference to be done in O(T) time instead of O(T 3), where T is the length of the sequence; an exact smoothing algorithm that takes O(log T
The Implementation of the Cilk-5 Multithreaded Language
, 1998
"... The fifth release of the multithreaded language Cilk uses a provably good "work-stealing " scheduling algorithm similar to the rst system, but the language has been completely redesigned and the runtime system completely reengineered. The efficiency of the new implementation was aided ..."

by a clear strategy that arose from a theoretical analysis of the scheduling algorithm: concentrate on minimizing overheads that contribute to the work, even at the expense of overheads that contribute to the critical path. Although it may seem counterintuitive to move overheads onto the critical path
Short Summary of the Originality and Novel Contribution
- Proceedings of the 2003 IEEE Int. Symp. on EMC
, 2003

In an earlier paper, the connection between the APD of a disturbance and its effect on digital communication system was presented. However, a tract ..."

Amplitude Probability Distribution (APD) has been proposed within CISPR as a measure of the emitted electromagnetic energy from electrical equipment. In an earlier paper, the connection between the APD of a disturbance and its effect on digital communication system was presented. However, a tractable way to put a requirement on the APD has until now not been presented. This paper shows a possible approach to design emission requirements on the APD. By letting a measured APD of a disturbance lie below the requirements, the impact on a variety of receivers are guaranteed to not exceed the maximal bit error probability.
Fixing the Java memory model
- In ACM Java Grande Conference
, 1999
"... This paper describes the new Java memory model, which has been revised as part of Java 5.0. The model specifies the legal behaviors for a multithreaded program; it defines the semantics of multithreaded Java programs and partially determines legal implementations of Java virtual machines and compile ..."

and compilers. The new Java model provides a simple interface for correctly synchronized programs – it guarantees sequential consistency to data-race-free programs. Its novel contribution is requiring that the behavior of incorrectly synchronized programs be bounded by a well defined notion of causality
Genome-wide survey of human alternative pre-mRNA splicing with exon junction microarrays
- Science
, 2003
"... Alternative pre–messenger RNA (pre-mRNA) splicing plays important roles in development, physiology, and disease, and more than half of human genes are alternatively spliced. To understand the biological roles and regulation of alternative splicing across different tissues and stages of development, ..."

and novel alternative splicing events. Adding to previous studies, the results indicate that at least 74 % of human multi-exon genes are alternatively spliced. Alternative pre-mRNA splicing is expected to make an important contribution to the complexity of the human proteome and at least half of human genes
Transis: A Communication Sub-System for High Availability
, 1992
"... This paper describes Transis, a communication sub-system for high availability. Transis is a transport layer package that supports a variety of reliable multicast message passing services between processors. It provides highly tuned multicast and control services for scalable systems with arbitrary ..."

The main benefit is the efficient implementation of these services using the broadcast capability. In addition, the membership algorithm has a
