Computing semantic relatedness using Wikipedia-based explicit semantic analysis

by Evgeniy Gabrilovich, Shaul Markovitch - In Proceedings of the 20th International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence , 2007
"... Computing semantic relatedness of natural language texts requires access to vast amounts of common-sense and domain-specific world knowledge. We propose Explicit Semantic Analysis (ESA), a novel method that represents the meaning of texts in a high-dimensional space of concepts derived from Wikipedi ..."

Logical foundations of object-oriented and frame-based languages

by Michael Kifer, Georg Lausen, James Wu - JOURNAL OF THE ACM , 1995
"... We propose a novel formalism, called Frame Logic (abbr., F-logic), that accounts in a clean and declarative fashion for most of the structural aspects of object-oriented and frame-based languages. These features include object identity, complex objects, inheritance, polymorphic types, query methods, ..."

Novel Concepts in Magnetic Shielding

by Holmlund Keipi Meinander, C. Holmlund, M. Keipi, T. Mein, A. Penttinen
"... Introduction VTT Automation and Euroshield Oy has developed a new concept for magnetically shielded rooms. For an enclosure size of 3 x 4 x 2.5 m 3 , the shielding factor exceeds 60 dB at low frequencies, increasing to above 90 dB at frequencies beyond 10 Hz. The concept, based on double aluminiu ..."

The most economical way to increase the neutron intensity at an instument is an optimization of all the components that are responsible for the extraction, moderation, transport, shaping and detection of the neutron beam. Because the principal interaction of neutrons with matter is of nuclear and magnetic origin, most components rely on di!raction, re#ection, and absorption of neutrons by suitable materials. Recently, major breakthroughs in the development of arti"cial multilayers, monochromators, and "lters have improved the performance of neutron scattering instruments signi"cantly. In this contribution we discuss recent progress in these "elds and some present and future applications and

The US DoD has undertaken a significant transformation to implement Net-Centric Warfare. The new interoperability foundation is Net-Centric Enterprise Services (NCES). Rather than sharing the same applications (e.g. GCCS), the US DoD organizations and Allied countries would interoperate using their own applications but adhering to the same sets of Information Technology standards and sharing common services. The COP 21 Portal is a Situation Awareness Knowledge Portal, in line with NCES. COP 21 has a number of COP capabilities that contribute to improve situation awareness: • Single point of access to multiple information sources • Filtering and categorizing information using Portfolio views • Dissemination of information using Portfolios • View of several documents together • Contextual search services • Web-Based Geographic Information System • Integration of application services in the portal

ROCK: A Robust Clustering Algorithm for Categorical Attributes

by Sudipto Guha, Rajeev Rastogi, Kyuseok Shim - In Proc.ofthe15thInt.Conf.onDataEngineering , 2000
"... Clustering, in data mining, is useful to discover distribution patterns in the underlying data. Clustering algorithms usually employ a distance metric based (e.g., euclidean) similarity measure in order to partition the database such that data points in the same partition are more similar than point ..."
