Maximum likelihood from incomplete data via the EM algorithm
- JOURNAL OF THE ROYAL STATISTICAL SOCIETY, SERIES B
, 1977
"... A broadly applicable algorithm for computing maximum likelihood estimates from incomplete data is presented at various levels of generality. Theory showing the monotone behaviour of the likelihood and convergence of the algorithm is derived. Many examples are sketched, including missing value situat ..."

The Dual of the Maximum Likelihood Method
"... Abstract The Maximum Likelihood method estimates the parameter values of a statistical model that maximizes the corresponding likelihood function, given the sample information. Each visit is assigned a probability pij, which is the risk that person i becomes infected during visit j. Each person can of course become infected during any visit or escape infection. The entire sequence of possible events (e.g., person i infected during the first visit or person i infected during second visit) is summed over all persons and all visits according to equation 1. The risk for infection (pij) is then estimated by maximizing this equation:
Quartet puzzling: a quartet maximum likelihood method for reconstructing tree topologies.
- Mol. Biol. Evol.
, 1996
"... A versatile method, quartet puzzling, is introduced to reconstruct the topology (branching pattern) of a phylogenetic tree based on DNA or amino acid sequence data. This method applies maximum-likelihood tree reconstruction to all possible quartets that can be formed from n sequences. The quartet t ..."

Estimation of Equispaced Sinusoids Using Maximum Likelihood Method
, 1995
"... A signal composed of sinusoids equispaced in frequency appears in certain applications. One such applicationis fault detection of rotating machines. We propose maximum likelihood method for estimating the spacing of frequencies, when the number of samples is to be minimised. The application of maxim ..."
