Table 1: Trends in some integrated circuit parameters
"... In PAGE 1: ... INTRODUCTION Due to continually shrinking feature sizes, higher clock frequen- cies, and the simultaneous growth in complexity, the role of inter- connect as a dominant factor in determining circuit performance is growing in importance. Table1 , drawn from the 2001 ITRS [27] (International Technology Roadmap for Semiconductors), shows that by 2010, high performance integrated circuits will count up to two billion transistors per chip and work with clock frequencies of the order of 10GHz. Coping with electrical interconnects under Permission to make digital or hard copies of all or part of this work for personal or classroom use is granted without fee provided that copies are not made or distributed for profit or commercial advantage and that copies bear this notice and the full citation on the first page.... ..."

Table II compares the HHE device to other non-volatile memory technologies. HHE devices have three significant advantages over competing technologies: high speed, effectively unlimited lifetimes, and easy integration with CMOS circuits. Compared to HHE devices, FLASH/EEPROM memories [8] [9] are extremely slow, having write times of microseconds or more. In addition, writing a FLASH memory cell damages the device, causing it to wear out after approximately 106 writes.

Table 2: Technology road map for performance of ASIC [16]
"... In PAGE 5: ... However, the progress of the technology for semiconductor is remarkable, and that does not deny the feasibility in the near future. For example, Table2 shows the technology road map for ASIC (Application-Specific Integrated Circuit) [16]. The road map predicts that the chip frequency improves twice or more for 8 years.... ..."

Table 2 Summary of principal characteristics of on-board spacecraft computers.
"... In PAGE 1: ... In the following sections of this paper the functional, physical, and design characteristics of these computers are summarized; the evolution of their characteristics and significant development trends are described; and their utilization in the respective host vehicles is dis- cussed. Evolution of computer characteristics The principal characteristics of the spacecraft computers described in subsequent sections are summarized in Table2 . From this table, the following evolution can be identified: Increased integration level in circuit technology The circuit technology used in these computers has evolved considerably from the discrete components of the early 1960s.... ..."
