GRASSMANN GEOMETRIES IN INFINITE DIMENSIONAL HOMOGENEOUS SPACES AND AN APPLICATION TO REFLECTIVE SUBMANIFOLDS
, 2007
"... Abstract. Let U be a real form of a complex semisimple Lie group, and (τ, σ) a pair of commuting involutions on U. This data corresponds to a reflective submanifold of a symmetric space, U/K. We define an associated integrable system, and describe how to produce solutions from curved flats. This giv ..."

. This gives many new examples of submanifolds as integrable systems. The solutions are shown to correspond to various special submanifolds, depending on which homogeneous space, U/L, one projects to. We apply the construction to a question which generalizes, to the context of reflective submanifolds
The particel swarm: Explosion, stability, and convergence in a multidimensional complex space
 IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON EVOLUTIONARY COMPUTION
"... The particle swarm is an algorithm for finding optimal regions of complex search spaces through interaction of individuals in a population of particles. Though the algorithm, which is based on a metaphor of social interaction, has been shown to perform well, researchers have not adequately explained ..."

The homogeneous coordinate ring of a toric variety
, 1992
"... This paper will introduce the homogeneous coordinate ring S of a toric variety X. The ring S is a polynomial ring with one variable for each onedimensional cone in the fan ∆ determining X, and S has a natural grading determined by the monoid of effective divisor classes in the Chow group An−1(X) of ..."

Estimating the Support of a HighDimensional Distribution
, 1999
"... Suppose you are given some dataset drawn from an underlying probability distribution P and you want to estimate a "simple" subset S of input space such that the probability that a test point drawn from P lies outside of S is bounded by some a priori specified between 0 and 1. We propo ..."

The irreducibility of the space of curves of given genus
 Publ. Math. IHES
, 1969
"... Fix an algebraically closed field k. Let Mg be the moduli space of curves of genus g over k. The main result of this note is that Mg is irreducible for every k. Of course, whether or not M s is irreducible depends only on the characteristic of k. When the characteristic s o, we can assume that k ~ ..."

HOMOGENIZATION AND TWOSCALE CONVERGENCE
, 1992
"... Following an idea of G. Nguetseng, the author defines a notion of "twoscale" convergence, which is aimed at a better description of sequences of oscillating functions. Bounded sequences in L2(f) are proven to be relatively compact with respect to this new type of convergence. A corrector ..."

type theorem (i.e., which permits, in some cases, replacing a sequence by its "twoscale " limit, up to a strongly convergent remainder in L2(12)) is also established. These results are especially useful for the homogenization of partial differential equations with periodically oscillating
Mathematical Control Theory: Deterministic Finite Dimensional Systems
 of Texts in Applied Mathematics
, 1990
"... The title of this book gives a very good description of its contents and style, although I might have added “Introduction to ” at the beginning. The style is mathematical: precise, clear statements (i.e., theorems) are asserted, then carefully proved. The book covers many of the key topics in contro ..."

Surface deformation due to shear and tensile faults in a halfspace
, 1985
"... A complete set of closed analytical expressions is presented in a unified manner for the internal displacements and strains due to shear and tensile faults in a halfspace for both point and finite rectangular sources. These expressions are particularly compact and systematically composed of terms r ..."
