Computational LambdaCalculus and Monads
, 1988
"... The λcalculus is considered an useful mathematical tool in the study of programming languages, since programs can be identified with λterms. However, if one goes further and uses fijconversion to prove equivalence of programs, then a gross simplification is introduced, that may jeopardise the ap ..."

Notions of Computation and Monads
, 1991

However, if one goes further and uses bnconversion to prove equivalence of programs, then a gross simplification is introduced (programs are identified with ..."

Simplification of urinary aldosterone measurement by radioimmunoassay
, 1973
"... SYNOPSIS An antialdosterone serum has been used to measure urinary aldosterone concentration. A single stage of paper chromatography provides an extract of sufficient purity. Further purification by additional chromatography in a different solvent system only improves the purity by 3 % + 8 (SD). Bl ..."

). Blanks are negligible and recovery of added aldosterone is 104 % ± 10 (SD). A simplified rapid screening assay capable of revealing gross deviations from the normal is also suggested. The diagnostic value of the assay is indicated. Estimation of aldosterone, in either plasma or urine, is recognized
Weighted Mesh Simplification of 3D . . .
, 2011
"... Representing huge triangular datasets in a realtime rendering environment is a challenge which receives continuous attention. There is a growing complexity of geometric meshes on the one hand and an increasing computational power of graphics hardware on the other hand. Although hardware acceleratio ..."

acceleration is very powerful, simplification using software is much cheaper and more flexible. Additionally, for a large class of geometric models, simplification can be performed as a preprocessing step where there is no demand for realtime operations. The underlying theory of this diploma thesis is based
Experiments in Hashcoded Algebraic Simplification
, 2005
"... An algebraic expression simplification program is one of the key components in any computer algebra system. It is also among the first nontrivial programs a student learning Lisp may encounter, converting symbolic expressions like (+ x ( * y 1) 0) to (+ x y). The solutions expected by the texts ’ a ..."

Tax simplification and tax compliance: An economic perspective
"... The gross tax gap in 2001—the amount of Federal taxes not paid voluntarily and on time—was estimated to be between $312 billion and $353 billion, or between 15 and 16.6 % of total tax liability (IRS 2005b). Clearly, enforcement of taxes in the United States is far from perfect. This essay considers ..."

Chapter 1 The Lorenz Model
"... Lorenz was interested in the predictability of the solutions to hydrodynamics equations. He was a meteorologist studying weather forecasting—and the question of the fundamental limitations to this endeavor. The model he introduced [1] can be thought of as a gross simplification of one feature of the ..."

MEASURES OF GROSS NATIONAL HAPPINESS
"... Happiness is rising on the political agenda and this calls for measures of how well nations perform in creating great happiness for a great number, analogous to measures of success in creating wealth, such as GDP. Happiness is defined as subjective enjoyment of one’s life asawhole and this can be ..."

of gross national happiness and these differences correspond with societal characteristics that can be influenced by policy makers, such as freedom and justice. Comparison over time shows major improvement during the last decade.
The Morishima Gross Elasticity of Substitution
"... We show that the HotellingLau elasticity of substitution, an extension of the AllenUzawa elasticity to allow for optimal outputquantity (or utility) responses to changes in factor prices, inherits all of the failings of the AllenUzawa elasticity identified by Blackorby and Russell [1989 AER]. An ..."

An analogous extension of the Morishima elasticity of substitution to allow for output quantity changes preserves the salient properties of the original Hicksian notion of elasticity of substitution. JEL classification: D11, D24, D33.
