Ecology of the family as a context for human development: Research perspectives.

by Urie Bronfenbrenner , Josephine Arastah , Mavis Hetherington , Richard Lerner , Jeylan T Mortimer , Joseph H Pleck , Lea Pulkinnen , Michael Rutter , Klaus Schneewind , Diana Slaughter - Developmental Psychology, , 1986
"... This review collates and examines critically a theoretically convergent but widely dispersed body of research on the influence of external environments on the functioning of families as contexts of human development. Investigations falling within this expanding domain include studies of the interac ..."

DART: Directed automated random testing

by Patrice Godefroid, Nils Klarlund, Koushik Sen - In Programming Language Design and Implementation (PLDI , 2005
"... We present a new tool, named DART, for automatically testing software that combines three main techniques: (1) automated extraction of the interface of a program with its external environment using static source-code parsing; (2) automatic generation of a test driver for this interface that performs ..."

Chromium is a trace element of estab-lished nutritional importance for the rat (1), squirrel monkey (2), and man (3). Human deficiency of this essential micronutrient may not be uncommon (4) and has been related to abnormalities of carbohydrate metabolism in man (5-7). At this time, however, the diagnosis of chromium deficiency remains difficult; solitary plasma chromium levels do not indicate the presence of a low chromium state (3), and factors effecting the rise in plasma chromium after a glucose load (8, 9) require further investigation (3, 9). Investi-gations of nutritional deficiencies of this ele-ment have, therefore, depended primarily on

Determinants of perceived ease of use Integrating Control, Intrinsic Motivation, and Emotion into the Technology Acceptance Model.

by Viswanath Venkatesh - Information Systems Research , 2000
"... M uch previous research has established that perceived ease of use is an important factor influencing user acceptance and usage behavior of information technologies. However, very little research has been conducted to understand how that perception forms and changes over time. The current work pres ..."

The proposed model was tested in three different organizations among 246 employees using three measurements taken over a three

The people make the place.

by Benjamin Schneider , Benjamin Schneider - Personnel Psychology, , 1987
"... A framework for understanding the etiology of organizational behavior is presented. The framework is ]based on theory and research from interactional psychology, vocational psychology, I/O psychology, and organizational theory. The framework proposes that organizations are functions of the kinds of ..."

Integrating Execution, Planning, and Learning in Soar for External Environments

by John E. Laird - In Proceedings of National Conference of Artificial Intelligence , 1990
"... Three key components of an autonomous intelli-gent system are planning, execution, and learning. This paper describes how the Soar architecture supports planning, execution, and learning in un-predictable and dynamic environments. The tight integration of these components provides reactive execution ..."

Internal and External Environments and Strategic Options

by Dianne A Wright Floydette , Cory-Scruggs Corey , A King
"... Abstract The authors examine factors contributing to the current fiscal uncertainty in U.S. higher education, strategies that are being used to address this issue, and related decision making lenses of both economic and political theory. Ongoing uncertainties regarding the financing of public highe ..."

higher education suggests that higher education institutions should continue to look internally and externally for sustainable solutions and greater resource diversification, and rather than choosing between economic and political frameworks, that -strategic‖ decisionmaking be employed.

External Memory Algorithms and Data Structures

by Jeffrey Scott Vitter , 1998
"... Data sets in large applications are often too massive to fit completely inside the computer's internal memory. The resulting input/output communication (or I/O) between fast internal memory and slower external memory (such as disks) can be a major performance bottleneck. In this paper, we surve ..."

and hierarchical memory. We discuss several important paradigms for how to solve batched and online problems efficiently in external memory. Programming tools and environments are available for simplifying the programming task. The TPIE system (Transparent Parallel I/O programming Environment) is both easy to use

Pathogen survival in the external environment and the evolution of virulence

by Bruno A. Walther, Paul W. Ewald - Biological Reviews , 2004
"... Recent studies have provided evolutionary explanations for much of the variation in mortality among human infectious diseases. One gap in this knowledge concerns respiratory tract pathogens transmitted from person to person by direct contact or through environmental contamination. The sit-and-wait h ..."

-and-wait hypothesis predicts that virulence should be positively correlated with durability in the external environment because high durability reduces the dependence of transmission on host mobility. Reviewing the epidemiological and medical literature, we confirm this prediction for respiratory tract pathogens

External environment and the moderating role of export market orientation ☆

by Antonio Navarro-García , Jorge Arenas-Gaitán , F Javier Rondán-Cataluña
"... This research has two main objectives. The first is to fill the knowledge gap on the role which the external environment plays in the strategic behavior of exporting companies, taking into account the psychological distances between the domestic and foreign markets. The second aim is to clarify the ..."
