Intentional Price Wars on the Equilibrium Path
"... In this paper we study the effect of information on the occurrence of intentional price wars on the equilibrium path. An episode of low prices is an intentional price war if it follows a period of high prices which was ended intentionally by one of the firms in the market (the price war leader). We ..."

The sphere of modern financial economics encompases finance, micro investment theory and much of the economics of uncertainty. As is evident from its influence on other branches of economics including public finance, industrial organization and monetary theory, the boundaries of this sphere are both permeable and flexible. The complex interactions of time and uncertainty guarantee intellectual challenge and intrinsic excitement to the study of financial economics. Indeed, the mathematics of the subject contain some of the most interesting applications of probability and optimization theory. But for all its mathematical refinement, the research has nevertheless had a direct and significant influence on practice. It was not always thus. Thirty years ago, finance theory was little more than a collection of anecdotes, rules of thumb, and manipulations of accounting data with an almost exclusive focus on corporate financial management. There is no need in this meeting of the guild to recount the subsequent evolution from this conceptual potpourri to a rigorous economic

EQUILIBRIUM PATHS OF MECHANICAL SYSTEMS WITH UNILATERAL CONSTRAINTS PART II: DEPLOYABLE REFLECTOR
"... The paper presents a simulation of the deployment/retraction of a solid surface deployable reflector recently developed at Cambridge University. The simulation takes proper account of the contacts that can develop between panels of adjacent wings of the reflector, by implementing the theory for tra ..."

for tracing the equilibrium path of a mechanical system with unilateral constraints that has been proposed in the companion paper. Sixfold symmetry is assumed, as experiments on a physical model of the reflector show that asymmetries do not play a signi cant role. During deployment, at a certain point
Equilibrium paths of a fractional order viscoelastic twomember truss
"... Abstract: The fractional dynamics equation of a viscoelastic twomember truss system, in which fractional derivative model introduced to simulate the materials ’ characteristics, is proposed. The equilibrium paths under vertical loads, horizontal loads and combined loads are discussed respectively. ..."

Worstcase equilibria
IN PROCEEDINGS OF THE 16TH ANNUAL SYMPOSIUM ON THEORETICAL ASPECTS OF COMPUTER SCIENCE
, 1999
"... In a system in which noncooperative agents share a common resource, we propose the ratio between the worst possible Nash equilibrium and the social optimum as a measure of the effectiveness of the system. Deriving upper and lower bounds for this ratio in a model in which several agents share a ver ..."

How bad is selfish routing?
 JOURNAL OF THE ACM
, 2002
"... We consider the problem of routing traffic to optimize the performance of a congested network. We are given a network, a rate of traffic between each pair of nodes, and a latency function for each edge specifying the time needed to traverse the edge given its congestion; the objective is to route t ..."

its traffic on the minimumlatency path available to it, given the network congestion caused by the other users. In general such a “selfishly motivated ” assignment of traffic to paths will not minimize the total latency; hence, this lack of regulation carries the cost of decreased network performance
Equilibrium Path Bifurcation Due to StrainSoftening Localization in Ellipsoidal Region
"... A preceding study of the loss of stability of a homogeneous strain state in infinite homogeneous solid due to localization of strain into an ellipsoidal region is complemented by determining the condition of bifurcation of equilibrium path due to ellipsoidal localization mode. The bifurcation occur ..."
