The need for computer-based aphasia treatment programs (CBATP) is increasing as viable options are sought for optimizing the quality, quantity and accessibility of therapy while also reducing its cost. A challenge in the development of CBATPs has been automated assessment of spoken responses. This feature would allow for provision of feedback to the patient and/or performance data to the speech-language pathologist. In this poster, we present data comparing the automated judgments of response accuracy of several systems with that of experienced clinicians. Patient data for this project was downloaded from the AphasiaBank database

A relativistic theory of cosmology proposing that the size of the Universe is limited by the observers rest mass, in such a way that the radius of the Universe stretches from the hypothetical Schwarzschild radius calculated from the observers mass, to the Mass Horizon Radius (MHR), a point on the horizon defining the absolute limit on the horizon beyond which the observer, can not observe, further, that the observers total potential energy domain is 2mc 2, spanning the range from-mc 2 to +mc

Musical composition can be roughly viewed as a search for the best solution among a finite - although huge - universe of possibilities. Some of the algorithmic compositional techniques try to simulate the act of composing doing this search automatically. However, this approach has two major problems. The first one is the hardness of depicting aesthetic concepts through mathematical rules. The second problem is the low efficiency of the exhaustive search among all possible solutions. The "Simulated Annealing" algorithm - first proposed in [1] - presents very good results on finding the optimal solution for many combinatorial problems efficiently (in polynomial time). In this paper we present an adaptation of this algorithm to the problem of algorithmic composition. We then discuss some possibilities regarding goal functions to this algorithm and describe MaxAnnealing, a tool designed to help composers and musicologists study the possibility of defining aesthetic concepts through mathema...
