THE PROBLEM OF BEACH CUSP DEVELOPMENT 1
"... ABSTRACT: Cusp development a three Hong Kong beaches was observed uring 1970/71, and measurements of cusp dimensions and sea state parameters obtained. Grain size distribu-tion as well as permiability differences were found between horns and bays. There appeared to be a tentative correlation between ..."

A Fast Marching Level Set Method for Monotonically Advancing Fronts
- PROC. NAT. ACAD. SCI
, 1995
"... We present a fast marching level set method for monotonically advancing fronts, which leads to an extremely fast scheme for solving the Eikonal equation. Level set methods are numerical techniques for computing the position of propagating fronts. They rely on an initial value partial differential eq ..."

equation for a propagating level set function, and use techniques borrowed from hyperbolic conservation laws. Topological changes, corner and cusp development, and accurate determination of geometric properties such as curvature and normal direction are naturally obtained in this setting. In this paper, we
THE PULSATING CUSP
"... Abstract. Recent observations at the magnetopause and of the high-latitude ionosphere, suggest that the cusp may be pulsed in nature. Specifically ground-based observa-tions in the dayside auroral oval reveal transient optical features accompanied by bursts of enhanced plasma flow. Also, recent inte ..."

interpretation has shown cusp satellite data to be consistent with a burst of enhanced reconnection. In this paper we use these observations to produce a scenario in which both the satellite and ground-based observations can be fitted. The scenario we develop is based on the flux transfer event (FTE) models
Test of selforganization in beach cusp formation
- J. Geophys. Res
"... [1] Field observations of swash flow patterns and morphology change are consistent with the hypothesis that beach cusps form by self-organization, wherein positive feedback between swash flow and developing morphology causes initial development of the pattern and negative feedback owing to circulati ..."

On cusps and flat tops
, 2008
"... We develop non-invertible Pesin theory for a new class of maps called cusp maps. These maps may have unbounded derivative, but nevertheless verify a property analogous to C 1+ǫ. We do not require the critical points to verify a non-flatness condition, so the results are applicable to C 1+ǫ maps with ..."

On the Cusp: New Developments in Language Teaching
"... This is an exciting time in the field of language teaching. Yet many ESL/EFL professionals are either unaware of or remain indifferent to developments in other fields that are of fundamental importance to language teaching, such as the evolving role of computer assisted language teaching (CALL) and ..."

On the Existence and Temperedness of Cusp Forms for . . .
"... We develop a partial trace formula which circumvents some technical difficulties in computing the Selberg trace formula for the quotient SL 3 (Z)nSL 3 (R)=SO 3 (R). As applications, we establish the Weyl asymptotic law for the discrete Laplace spectrum and prove that almost all of its cusp forms ar ..."

Cusps in η ′ → ηππ decays
, 2009
"... The discovery of the cusp effect in the decay K + → π + π 0 π 0 has spurred the search for other decay channels, where this phenomenon, which is generated by strong final-state interactions, should also occur. A very promising candidate is η ′ → ηπ 0 π 0. The cusp effect offers an excellent opportu ..."

opportunity to experimentally extract ππ S-Wave scattering lengths. We adapt and generalize the non-relativistic effective field theory framework developed for K → 3π decays to η ′ → ηππ. The cusp effect is predicted to have an effect of more than 8 % on the decay spectrum below the π + π − threshold [1]. We
Index and spectral theory for manifolds with generalized fibred cusps
- Department of Mathematics, Massachusetts Institute of Technology
, 2001
"... Generalizing work of W.
