Globally Consistent Range Scan Alignment for Environment Mapping
 AUTONOMOUS ROBOTS
, 1997
"... A robot exploring an unknown environmentmay need to build a world model from sensor measurements. In order to integrate all the frames of sensor data, it is essential to align the data properly. An incremental approach has been typically used in the past, in which each local frame of data is alig ..."

is aligned to a cumulative global model, and then merged to the model. Because different parts of the model are updated independently while there are errors in the registration, such an approachmay result in an inconsistent model. In this paper, we study the problem of consistent registration of multiple

Many systems that exhibit nonmonotonic behavior have been described and studied already in the literature. The general notion of nonmonotonic reasoning, though, has almost always been described only negatively, by the property it does not enjoy, i.e. monotonicity. We study here general patterns of nonmonotonic reasoning and try to isolate properties that could help us map the field of nonmonotonic reasoning by reference to positive properties. We concentrate on a number of families of nonmonotonic consequence relations, defined in the style of Gentzen [13]. Both prooftheoretic and semantic points of view are developed in parallel. The former point of view was pioneered by D. Gabbay in [10], while the latter has been advocated by Y. Shoham in [38]. Five such families are defined and characterized by representation theorems, relating the two points of view. One of the families of interest, that of preferential relations, turns out to have been studied by E. Adams in [2]. The pr...
Trace Scheduling: A Technique for Global Microcode Compaction
 IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON COMPUTERS
, 1981
"... Microcode compaction is the conversion of sequential microcode into efficient parallel (horizontal) microcode. Local compaction techniques are those whose domain is basic blocks of code, while global methods attack code with a general flow control. Compilation of highlevel microcode languages int ..."

Compositional Model Checking
, 1999
"... We describe a method for reducing the complexity of temporal logic model checking in systems composed of many parallel processes. The goal is to check properties of the components of a system and then deduce global properties from these local properties. The main difficulty with this type of approac ..."

Hierarchical modelbased motion estimation

Freeform deformation of solid geometric models
 IN PROC. SIGGRAPH 86
, 1986
"... A technique is presented for deforming solid geometric models in a freeform manner. The technique can be used with any solid modeling system, such as CSG or Brep. It can deform surface primitives of any type or degree: planes, quadrics, parametric surface patches, or implicitly defined surfaces, f ..."

It is also possible to deform a solid model in such a way that its volume is preserved. The scheme is based on trivariate Bernstein polynomials
A volumetric method for building complex models from range images,”
in Proceedings of the 23rd annual conference on Computer graphics and interactive techniques. ACM,
, 1996
"... Abstract A number of techniques have been developed for reconstructing surfaces by integrating groups of aligned range images.
