"... Abstract. Wetlands are highly productive ecosystems, providing a number of goods and services that are of value to people. The open-access nature and the public-good characteristics of wetlands often result in these regions being undervalued in decisions relating to their use and conservation. There ..."

. There is now a substantial literature on wetland valuation, including two meta-analyses that examine subsets of the available wetland valuation literature. We collected over 190 wetland valuation studies, providing 215 value observations, in order to present a more comprehensive meta-analysis of the valuation

Three structures for belief revision: plausibility relations on states, relations of epistemic entrenchment on propositions and systems of spheres (hypertheories), are generalised to the non-linear (non-connected) case. The further generalisation to the case of sets of such structures is also investigated. A formal language with dynamic and doxastic (belief) modal operators (DDL) is used to establish interdefinability properties between the structures and complete axiomatisations are given. The problem of iterated belief revision on non-linear structures is considered. The ideas and results of (Darwiche and Pearl 1997) for iterated belief revision on linear structures are generalised to the non-linear case and axiomatisations in DDL are given. The structures and results are used to investigate a particular application: the problem when there are multiple, possibly unreliable and possibly contradictory sources of information. A trustworthiness relation on sources of information together with the information supplied by the sources is used to generate a non-linear plausibility relation on states and forms the basis for a decision procedure about what to believe. A DDL-style language with multiple non-prioritised revision operators is used to investigate the resulting structures and complete axiomatisations are given. Key words: Belief revision, iterated belief revision, non-linear belief revision, epistemic entrenchment, plausibility relations, possibility relations, preferential relations, sources of information, contradictory information, non-prioritized belief revision, AGM.

Many lakes, coastal zones and oceans are directly or indirectly influenced by human activities. Through the outlet of a vast amount of substances in the air and water, we are changing the natural conditions on local and global levels. Remote sensing sensors, on satellites or airplanes, can collect image data, providing the user with information about the depicted area, object or phenomenon. Three different applications are discussed in this thesis. In the first part, we have used a bio-optical model to derive information about water quality parameters from remote sensing data collected over Swedish lakes. In the second part, remote sensing data have been used to locate and map wastewater plumes from pulp and paper industries along the east coast of Sweden. Finally, in the third part, we have investigated to what extent satellite data can be used to monitor coral reefs and detect coral bleaching. Regardless of application, it is important to understand the limitations of this technique. The available sensors are different and limited in terms of their spatial, spectral, radiometric and temporal resolution. We are also
