A Framework for Uplink Power Control in Cellular Radio Systems
- IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications
, 1996
"... In cellular wireless communication systems, transmitted power is regulated to provide each user an acceptable connection by limiting the interference caused by other users. Several models have been considered including: (1) fixed base station assignment where the assignment of users to base stations ..."

Opportunistic Beamforming Using Dumb Antennas
- IEEE Transactions on Information Theory
, 2002
"... Multiuser diversity is a form of diversity inherent in a wireless network, provided by independent time-varying channels across the different users. The diversity benefit is exploited by tracking the channel fluctuations of the users and scheduling transmissions to users when their instantaneous cha ..."

that multiuser diversity can still be exploited. The scheme can be interpreted as opportunistic beamforming and we show that true beamforming gains can be achieved when there are sufficient users, even though very limited channel feedback is needed. Furthermore, in a cellular system, the scheme plays

Using Bayesian networks to analyze expression data
- Journal of Computational Biology
, 2000
"... DNA hybridization arrays simultaneously measure the expression level for thousands of genes. These measurements provide a “snapshot ” of transcription levels within the cell. A major challenge in computational biology is to uncover, from such measurements, gene/protein interactions and key biologica ..."

biological features of cellular systems. In this paper, we propose a new framework for discovering interactions between genes based on multiple expression measurements. This framework builds on the use of Bayesian networks for representing statistical dependencies. A Bayesian network is a graph-based model
Real-Time Dynamic Voltage Scaling for Low-Power Embedded Operating Systems
, 2001
"... In recent years, there has been a rapid and wide spread of nontraditional computing platforms, especially mobile and portable computing devices. As applications become increasingly sophisticated and processing power increases, the most serious limitation on these devices is the available battery lif ..."

the necessary peak computation power in general-purpose systems. However, for a large class of applications in embedded real-time systems like cellular phones and camcorders, the variable operating frequency interferes with their deadline guarantee mechanisms, and DVS in this context, despite its growing
The Large-Scale Organization of Metabolic Networks
, 2000
"... In a cell or microorganism the processes that generate mass, energy, information transfer, and cell fate specification are seamlessly integrated through a complex network of various cellular constituents and reactions. However, despite the key role these networks play in sustaining various cellular ..."

Aging: a theory based on free radical and radiation chemistry
- J Gerontol
, 1956
"... The phenomenon of growth, decline and death-aging-has been the source of consider-able speculation (1, 8, 10). This cycle seems to be a more or less direct function of the meta-bolic rate and this in turn depends on the species (animal or plant) on which are super-imposed the factors of heredity and ..."

Irradiation of living things induces mutation, cancer, and aging (9). Inasmuch as these also arise

This paper provides a detailed discussion of wireless resource and channel allocation schemes. We provide a survey of a large number of published papers in the area of fixed, dynamic and hybrid allocation schemes and compare their trade-offs in terms of complexity and performance. We also investigate these channel allocation schemes based on other factors such as distributed/centralized control and adaptability to traffic conditions. Moreover, we provide a detailed discussion on reuse partitioning schemes, effect of hand-offs and prioritization schemes. Finally, we discuss other important issues in resource allocation such as overlay cells, frequency planning, and power control. 1 Introduction Technological advances and rapid development of handheld wireless terminals have facilitated the rapid growth of wireless communications and mobile computing. Taking ergonomics and economics factors into account, and considering the new trends in the telecommunications industry to provide ubiqui...
