Scaling Personalized Web Search
- In Proceedings of the Twelfth International World Wide Web Conference
, 2002
"... Recent web search techniques augment traditional text matching with a global notion of "importance" based on the linkage structure of the web, such as in Google's PageRank algorithm. For more refined searches, this global notion of importance can be specialized to create personalized ..."

Graphcut textures: Image and video synthesis using graph cuts
- ACM Transactions on Graphics, SIGGRAPH 2003
, 2003
"... This banner was generated by merging the source images in Figure 6 using our interactive texture merging technique. In this paper we introduce a new algorithm for image and video texture synthesis. In our approach, patch regions from a sample image or video are transformed and copied to the output a ..."

. Unlike dynamic programming, our graph cut technique for seam optimization is applicable in any dimension. We specifically explore it in 2D and 3D to perform video texture synthesis in addition to regular image synthesis. We present approximative offset search techniques that work well in conjunction
Searching Techniques for Integral Tables

We describe the design of data structures and a computer program for storing a table of symbolic indefinite or definite integrals and retrieving user-requested integrals on demand. Typical times are so short that a preliminary look-up attempt prior to any algorithmic integration approach seems justified. In one such test for a table with around 700 entries, matches were found requiring an average of 2.8 milliseconds per request, on a Hewlett Packard 9000/712 workstation. 1 Introduction and objectives A goal of our recent work is to explore storage and retrieval of mathematical knowledge in a computer problem-solving environment. In particular we have considered how to supplement a computer algebra system's procedures for computing the form of indefinite or definite integrals by including in the system the mass of integrals that have been tabulated during the last two centuries. Of course some of this tabulated material (and more) can be computed algorithmically, but some of it cannot...
GRASP - A New Search Algorithm for Satisfiability
, 1996
"... This paper introduces GRASP (Generic seaRch Algorithm for the Satisjiability Problem), an integrated algorithmic framework for SAT that un.$es several previously proposed searchpruning techniques and facilitates ident$cation of additional ones. GRASP is premised on the inevitability of confzicts dur ..."

Generation of Transfer Functions with Stochastic Search Techniques
, 1996

Probabilistic Visual Learning for Object Representation
, 1996
"... We present an unsupervised technique for visual learning which is based on density estimation in high-dimensional spaces using an eigenspace decomposition. Two types of density estimates are derived for modeling the training data: a multivariate Gaussian (for unimodal distributions) and a Mixture-of ..."

These probability densities are then used to formulate a maximum-likelihood estimation framework for visual search and target detection for automatic object recognition and coding. Our learning technique is applied to the probabilistic visual modeling, detection
View-Based and Modular Eigenspaces for Face Recognition
- IEEE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON COMPUTER VISION & PATTERN RECOGNITION
, 1994
"... In this work we describe experiments with eigenfaces for recognition and interactive search in a large-scale face database. Accurate visual recognition is demonstrated using a database of o(10^3) faces. The problem of recognition under general viewing orientation is also explained. A view-based mul ..."

Hidden Markov models in computational biology: applications to protein modeling
- JOURNAL OF MOLECULAR BIOLOGY
, 1994
"... Hidden.Markov Models (HMMs) are applied t.0 the problems of statistical modeling, database searching and multiple sequence alignment of protein families and protein domains. VisualSEEk: a fully automated content-based image query system
, 1996
