Capacity of multi-antenna Gaussian channels

by I. Emre Telatar - EUROPEAN TRANSACTIONS ON TELECOMMUNICATIONS , 1999
"... We investigate the use of multiple transmitting and/or receiving antennas for single user communications over the additive Gaussian channel with and without fading. We derive formulas for the capacities and error exponents of such channels, and describe computational procedures to evaluate such form ..."

such formulas. We show that the potential gains of such multi-antenna systems over single-antenna systems is rather large under independence assumptions for the fades and noises at different receiving antennas.

Trade Facilitation – Impact and Potential Gains

by Peter Kleen
"... As the tariff levels and other trade barriers have decreased due to the negotiation in the WTO and other international agreements, the costs of cumbersome trade procedures are becoming increasingly visible. The need for trade facilitation has during a long period of time been heavily argued by the b ..."

an in-depth study of the impact and potential gains of trade facilitation. In this report, results from both previous studies, international as well as national, and the experiences of the Swedish business community and individual companies of various sizes and types have been compiled and analysed

The market for corporate control: The scientific evidence

by Michael C. Jensen, Richard S. Ruback - Journal of Financial Economics , 1983
"... This paper reviews much of the scientific literature on the market for corporate control. The evidence indicates that corporate takeovers generate positive gains, that target firm shareholders benefit, and that bidding firm shareholders do not lose. The gains created by corporate takeovers do not ap ..."

XORs in the air: practical wireless network coding

by Sachin Katti, Hariharan Rahul, Wenjun Hu, Dina Katabi, Muriel Médard, Jon Crowcroft - In Proc. ACM SIGCOMM , 2006
"... This paper proposes COPE, a new architecture for wireless mesh networks. In addition to forwarding packets, routers mix (i.e., code) packets from different sources to increase the information content of each transmission. We show that intelligently mixing packets increases network throughput. Our de ..."

design is rooted in the theory of network coding. Prior work on network coding is mainly theoretical and focuses on multicast traffic. This paper aims to bridge theory with practice; it addresses the common case of unicast traffic, dynamic and potentially bursty flows, and practical issues facing

Motivation through the Design of Work: Test of a Theory. Organizational Behavior and Human Performance,

by ] Richard Hackman , Grec R Oldham , 1976
"... A model is proposed that specifies the conditions under which individuals will become internally motivated to perform effectively on their jobs. The model focuses on the interaction among three classes of variables: (a) the psychological states of employees that must be present for internally motiv ..."

around the world converged on Seattle with the goal of launching a new round of trade negotiations under the auspices of the World Trade Organization (WTO). This has been dubbed “WTO2000 ” in recognition of the new millennium. In light of the tremendous growth in world trade over the last fifty years— much of it fueled by multilateral trade liberalization under the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT), the WTO’s predecessor, many had high aspirations for this “Millennium Round. ” However, the Seattle meetings failed in the face of vigorous demonstrations by labor and environmental groups. In addition, there has been a marked lack of enthusiasm for this new round in the United States. The purpose of this paper is to provide a quantitative assessment

2 The Potential Gains from International Migration

by unknown authors
"... International migration can generate substantial welfare gains for migrants, their countries of origin, and the countries to which they migrate. The main focus of this report is on gains from the remittances that migrants send home (discussed in chapters 4–6); chapters 2 and 3 address the economic c ..."

nostic technique that relies on radio-frequency-induced nuclear resonance to chart physicochemical differences between tissues, rather than using ionizing radiation. This technique is the subject of a recent case study on medical technology by the Office of Technology Assess-ment (1). As with the previous reports in this series, which has covered such diverse technologies as computed tomographic (CT) scanning, screening for colon cancer, bone marrow transplantation, upper gastrointestinal en-doscopy, psychotherapy, cimetidine and peptic ulcer dis-ease, and treatment for alcoholism, this report provides a state-of-the-art analysis, including a cost-effectiveness study and a review of the current and future policy impli-cations of MRI. Magnetic resonance imaging, formerly referred to as

Capacity Limits of MIMO Channels

by Andrea Goldsmith, Sriram Vishwanath, et al. - IEEE J. SELECT. AREAS COMMUN , 2003
"... We provide an overview of the extensive recent results on the Shannon capacity of single-user and multiuser multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channels. Although enormous capacity gains have been predicted for such channels, these predictions are based on somewhat unrealistic assumptions about t ..."

More realistic assumptions can dramatically impact the potential capacity gains of MIMO techniques. For time-varying MIMO channels there are multiple Shannon theoretic capacity definitions and
