The consumption of powder additives applied in a simple powder form has fallen from almost 60 % to below 40 % during the last 5 years. This change is not remarkable given the many problems associated with powders, ranging from health & safety to transport, storage and feeding issues. What is more remarkable is that, although a very slight increase in granulated products is evident, the majority of this shift is a direct reflection of the growth in the No Dust Blend (NDB), which have grown from les than 8 % to more than 25 % in the same period of time. The reasons for this will be explored by giving a brief overview of the technical and commercial benefits associated with the use of NDB. It is these benefits, some immediately obvious others less obvious and difficult to quantify, which have been the drivers behind their rapid growth. In the second part, the paper focusses on improved additive effectiveness due to additive incorporation via NDB on the example of a wire & cable and a pipe application. It was found that eutectic alloy effects of selected additive mixtures and pre-dispersion of additives can lead to improved cost performance. Presented at:
