Abstract: Previous research has shown that the strategy chosen by server applications for managing multiple simultaneous connections may have a significant impact on a server's behavior. This thesis examines commonly used mechanisms for communicating state and event information between the kernel and application and their effect on application structure and behavior. From this examination we find that there is potential for improving application scalability characteristics through the use of an improved... (Update)
