Abstract: Unlike traditional relational database operations which are typically I/O bound, many spatial database operations are CPU-intensive due to the complexity of the spatial objects and the complexity of the underlying computational geometry algorithms. In this paper, we propose a novel approach to accelerate spatial selections and joins with computer graphics hardware. Our work is focused on hardware-based implementation of the polygon-polygon intersection test, which is the computational primitive ... (Update)
