Abstract: This paper deals with differential-algebraic equations of index two in Hessenberg form. It is an attempt to extend the concept of A-stability to those DAE's. For linear DAE's contractivity in the analytical solution is investigated. The results are compared with contractivity in numerical solutions obtained by implicit Runge-Kutta methods, projected implicit Runge-Kutta methods and BDF methods.
