Abstract: In this paper we examine the potential benefits of allocating a dedicated backup connection to provide survivability for ATM multipoint communications. Specifically we examine the feasibility of providing survivability using a working multipoint connection with a disjoint dedicated backup multipoint connection where the multipoint connections are setup using either Virtual Rings, shared multicast trees, or VC Mesh groups. We introduce a novel optimization formulation which identifies a... (Update)
