Abstract: A major challenge in optical burst switching (OBS) networks is how to provide quality of service (QoS). One of the differentiation schemes is burst preemption among multiple priority classes. Preemption is important in OBS networks because it does not rely on expensive wavelength conversion or optical buffering techniques, and because a truncated burst may still consist of a large number of upper layer packets.
