Abstract: The strength of various cryptosystems depends substantially on the properties of elements they consist of. Substitution blocks are often used as nonlinear transformations in both stream ciphers, block ciphers and one-way hash functions. One of the most important properties of substitution blocks is their ability to transform small changes of input into large output changes, which is measured by the Strict Avalanche Criterion, the SAC.
