Abstract: We study a hybrid nite element/ nite di erence simulation of the timedependent elastic wave equation in two and three dimensions. The method is hybrid in the sense that di erent numerical methods, nite elements and nite di erences, are used in di erent subdomains. The goal of this approach is to combine the exibility of nite elements and the eciency of nite di erences. An explicit hybrid method for the elastic wave equation is presented where the nite di erence schemes and nite element schemes... (Update)
