Abstract: This essay continues my investigation of "syntactic semantics": the theory that, pace Searle's ChineseRoom
Argument, syntax does suffice for semantics (in particular, for the semantics needed for a
computational cognitive theory of natural-language understanding). Here, I argue that syntactic
