Abstract: This paper presents a model for predicting performance of algorithms on synchronized distributed memory machines, such as the CM-5. The model fits between simple models generally applied to algorithm design, and complex models applied to machine evaluation. Validation is provided while varying problem, algorithm, implementation, and machine parameters. The model is then applied to analyze CM-5 performance, provide guidelines for efficient implementation, predict scalability of algorithms, and... (Update)
