Abstract: By applying the MPEG video to ATM DBR (formerly known as CBR) service class, call admission control (CAC) and usage parameter control (UPC) can become much simpler than the case with VBR (or SBR) service class. However, a highly bursty nature of MPEG wastes the bandwidth usage. We therefore consider how the peak cell rate (PCR) can be reduced by sustaining the quality of MPEG video under the condition that the end station can control the encoding rate of MPEG according to the allocated...
