Abstract: Heterarchic manufacturing systems hold the promise of flexibility, resilience and viability. Such systems should be organized as a network of loosely coupled, communicating and cooperating agents performing distinct tasks of their own. In order to reconcile their individual goals and constraints with those of the overall community, i.e. to resolve their conflicts, agents need to negotiate.
