Abstract: The costs of executing traditional garbage collection algorithms most generally include not only the costs of allocating and reclaiming memory, but also the overhead costs imposed by the garbage collection system on standard memory modification and lookup operations. This paper outlines the design of a general purpose garbage collection system that uses specialized hardware to allow standard memory access and modification operations to perform nearly as well as traditional memory....
