Abstract: Whereas the oldest negotiation framework in distributed artificial intelligence, the Contract Net metaphor, embodies a truly distributed negotiation procedure, some of the younger approaches to negotiation are distributed to a lesser degree, relying on a mediator to resolve conflicts between agents.
