Abstract: In this paper, we discuss the scalability issues arising in distributed WWW caching systems that exchange meta information among caching proxies using Internet Cache Protocol (ICP). One of the main objectives of WWW caching systems is to reduce WWW traffic on the Internet. Since the traffic generated by ICP does not usually convey WWW objects, it might be considered as a waste of network resources. However, ICP is expected to improve the hit rate so that the system would in turn reduce WWW... (Update)
