Abstract: This paper is concerned with this aspect of theory of partitions. Erdos and Lehner [7] were the first to give a systematic study along this line in the case = Z . They showed that the number of summands (counted with multiplicities) in a random unrestricted partition of n follows asymptotically (as n ! +1) an extreme-value distribution, a local version being later derived by Auluck et al. in [2].
