Abstract: Execution Model We provide an abstract parallel machine with shared memory to the programmer, so the users are not concerned with message passing, data and execution distribution, machine failures, and the configuration of the system. The actual execution environment, a network of distributed non-dedicated workstation, is di#erent from the abstract parallel machine, as illustrated in figure 2.1.
