Abstract: this paper we shall describe a less detailed approach, specifically intended to be useful outside the specialist world of HCI. We have applied this `cognitive dimensions' framework to a selection of different enduser programming environments [1]. The framework describes about a dozen dimensions, or cognitivelyrelevant aspects, of a programming environment (or of any other kind of system). For most people the concepts employed will be immediately recognizable but will not have been named before; ... (Update)
