Abstract: Several new high-speed network technologies have emerged in the past few years. Some of these networks offer high speed links and switch topology with up to a 100 Mbytes/s transfer rate per link. This is a study to evaluate the performance of these networks in distributed computing environments. Six networks are evaluated here: HiPPI, ATM, Fibre Channel, IBM Allnode switch, FDDI, and Ethernet.
