Because of the ordering operation, spatial and temporal information is ignored in favor of magnitude information. A well known OS filter is the median filter. We apply the 3D Range Test filter described in [4]. The MPEG2 compression scheme itself can also be used as a noise reducer: coring the DCT coefficients prior to quantization may lead to considerable noise reduction.
