....but with additional displays and information providing widgets, it could be extended to build a full tour guide application. DUMMBO Motivation For our third application, we chose to augment an already existing system, the DUMMBO (Dynamic Ubiquitous Mobile Meeting Board) project at Georgia Tech [2]. DUMMBO is an instrumented digitizing whiteboard that supports the capture and access of informal and spontaneous meetings. Captured meetings consist of the ink written to and erased from the whiteboard as well as the recorded audio discussion. After the meeting, a participant can access the ....

....keep track of the number of people in our laboratory. This application was built in C and Java on Linux. Simple to Use Context From an application builder s perspective, the infrastructure makes it simple to add the use of context to applications that previously did not use context. The DUMMBO [3] application is an augmented whiteboard that stores what is written on it and spoken around it, to aid in the capture of informal whiteboard meetings. The original version did not use context and began to capture audio and pen strokes when someone started writing on the whiteboard. The application ....

....all discussion in the room with equal sound quality. Capturing more informal meetings is less trivial. We designed a completely new system, called DUMMBO (Dynamic Ubiquitous Mobile Meeting Board) using a non projecting SmartBoard with an attached sound system, shown on the left in Figure 10 [6]. When anyone approached the board and picked up a pen to write on the board, it automatically began to capture the writing and discussion. After a certain period of inactivity, recording would stop. All of the captured data was entered into a central database. Accessing this collection of ....

On the left, the Web based access interface for DUMMBO, which allows a user to browse through an interactive timeline of captured sessions to locate and playback a session of interest. For details, see [6] 4.2 Capturing more content Now that we have demonstrated our capability to capture a large number of classes during one quarter, we want to take on the challenge of understanding the content underlying the lectures. Students have consistently asked for this capability as a way to relate ....
