.... measured reflectance S( a measured illuminant E( and the 3 vector of camera sensitivities R( the induced camera response is calculated as: p = Z R( E( S( d (5:14) The response functions of the SONY DXC 930 camera used in the experiments were derived via the methods of Sharma and Trussel [ST93]. For reflectances the 24 Macbeth color checker patches [BP88] were used, and for illuminants the 6 Judd daylight phases D48, D55, D65, D75, D100, D200 [JMW64] CIE standard illuminants [WS82] A, B, and C, a 2000K planckian black body radiator, and a uniform white. The uniform white was chosen to ....

....is linear. Since our Sony DXC 930 CCD colour camera has a slight non linearity, we also discuss the implications of such a non linearities, and report on the method used to deal with them. The fitting procedure itself is an extension to that documented in [Bar95] which itself was inspired by [ST93]. We find it superior to the pseudo inverse method as well as the Wiener method (both tested in [HSF92] as both these methods can find sensors which are not physically possible. For example, they both can find sensors which have negative sensitivities. The pseudo inverse method is especially ....

....devices. Calibration schemes that attempt to transform the scanner data into a standardized device independent color space have been studied extensively[3, 4, 5, 6] However, the more fundamental problem of estimating the spectral sensitivity of the scanner has received only limited attention [7, 8, 9, 10]. The spectral characterization can be used to determine the optimal transformation of the color data into the output device space [11, 12] instead of the suboptimal two step procedure involving the transformation to an intermediate device independent color space. The spectral characterization can ....
