The major program fragments in this book were taken directly from source files that were compiled on a DEC VAX11 8550 running the 10th Edition UNIX[25] system. The compiler used is a direct descendant of the original C compiler developed by the author. The language used here is pure C ; that is, no implementationdependent extensions are used. Therefore, the examples ought to run on any C implementation. However, the template and exception ....
