....One of the principle problems with any telecommunications system is locating the recipient. Current systems identify a place or thing (telephone handset, computer display or mobile telephone) not a person. A common universal naming scheme and a distributable name server similar to Cheriton [3] were developed to allow users to identify other users by name, not location. Our system extends Cheriton s work by allowing applications to identify servers by service class, cost or a mixture of other parameters. For example a search of the name server might specify Peter Beadle s video ....
