.... shown that deterministic disk access patterns occur on personal computers not only while accessing a single le sequentially (as in the case of loading a data le of some sort) but that determinism occurs across le boundaries and can involve many short accesses to di erent les as programs load [YIN98]. There are a number of strategies that can exploit deterministic disk access patterns for performance gains. We discuss these strategies as evidence that nding determinism in disk access patterns is a valid pursuit in itself, not because we will implement any or all of the following ....
