An attribute grammar does not necessarily provide the most convenient paradigm to use when building a compiler, even for a simple language. A telling comparison appears in [22], where the same compiler is specified using two different attribute grammar systems and using a logic programming system named Gentle. In terms of brevity and clarity, the Gentle specification is a clear winner. Certainly, the logic programming paradigm is adequate for specifying type checking ....
