....though there is no standard one in the same sense that lex and yacc have become standard in their particular environments. An attribute grammar does not necessarily provide the most convenient paradigm to use when building a compiler, even for a simple language. A telling comparison appears in [22], where the same compiler is specified using two different attribute grammar systems and using a logic programming system named Gentle. In terms of brevity and clarity, the Gentle specification is a clear winner. Certainly, the logic programming paradigm is adequate for specifying type checking ....
