....approaches to debugging than are currently employed by rfs. There are other systems that require a programmer to manually code a prior reactive competence in order to avoid or reduce the need for automatic planning. In this regard there is work by Beetz and McDermott [1992] Brooks [1986] Firby [1987], Kaelbling [1988] and Georgeff and Lansky [1987] Of these, only the system of Beetz and McDermott includes a planner. This planner, described in detail by McDermott [1992] uses a number of heuristic transformations that improve a given reactive program s goal achieving properties. We feel that ....

....IV. RELATED WORK with a powerful deliberative layer and a degenerated sequencing layer, whereas many three tiered archi tectures fit the first case described in the introduc tion and have a degenerated deliberative layer but a powerful sequencing layer, for example, one based on RAPS [Firby87]. The planners of some of these robot architectures run asynchronously with the control loop [Gat91 ] whereas the plmners of others run synchronously with the control loop [Bon97] Similarly, the plmners of some of these robot architectures run continuously [Sten95] Lyons95] whereas the ....

....can be a familiar situation for another, and the former can request the latter to carry it out. Therefore, agents in complex, real world domains need to combine the bene ts of reactive and planning systems to control their behaviors. Recently, some approaches try to integrate these two levels [6, 9, 10]. However, these approaches still seem incomplete to us since they do not incorporate the decision making process that is important in multiagent environments [18] Therefore, our agent model combines advantages of reactive, planning and decision making systems. Precisely, the proposed model in ....

....is only used to mimic universal assertions, and such systems have the ability of handling universal assertions, they can indeed check satisfiability of #C . interesting to notice that the notion of reuse has also arisen in planning. One of the best known contributions in this sense is that in [Firby, 1987] , where a planning approach is presented, based on fulfilling the goal by suitably selecting the right plan from a plan library. There, the plan was only selected from those in the plan library, and possibly customized to achieve the current goal. One could think of performing planning ....
