Timing UDP: Mechanized Semantics for Sockets.. - Wansbrough.. (2002)   (Correct)

....HOL system has been used to define operational semantics for various programming languages in the past, including SML and C [Van96,Nor98] so we were confident that the various tools needed for our own definitions and proofs would be present. The implementation of HOL continues to develop (see [NS02] and our experience has been a substantial prompt to further development. To make the semantics readable (for ourselves as well as others) we depend on automatic typesetting tools special purpose tools we have written to take HOL source and render it into L A T E X, applying the various ....

Rigour is good for you and feasible: reflections on.. - Norrish, Sewell.. (2002)   Self-citation (Norrish)   (Correct)

....we used experimental techniques to determine the behaviour of implementations in particular situations. These experiments were important in determining behaviours in extreme cases that were often not very well documented. In both cases, we also used the HOL interactive theorem proving system [3, 9]. For the C semantics, HOL was used from the outset, enabling the definition of a type representing C syntax, and the appropriate relations, for typing and behaviour, over those types. Used entirely in this definitional capacity , HOL provides an expressive, statically type checked language in ....
