....exist two alternative approaches in the development of cooperative systems; the first and most traditional approach is to develop systems which support the exchange of information between users. The second refers to the development of systems which exploit the sharing of information; see also Blair and Rodden (1991). Systems based on information exchange are often called structured and assume an asychronous and remote mode of cooperation.
