....of timed UML state machines. The timed state machines of a UML model are compiled into timed automata, as used by the model checker UPPAAL [13] A time annotated collaboration is translated into an observer UPPAAL timed automaton using basically the same techniques as described by Firley et al. [8]. The model checker UPPAAL is called upon to verify the timed automata representing the model against the observer timed automaton. We illustrate the translation and verification procedure by a benchmark case study in real time systems, the Generalised Railroad Crossing (GRC) problem introduced ....
....steps, is not obvious. Muthiayen [17] describes the verification of timed UML state machines with the theorem prover PVS. Again, the GRC problem serves as a case study. A translation of UML collaborations with time constraints into UPPAAL timed automata has been presented by Firley et al. [8], though no implementation seems to be available. Also related is the translation of hierarchical timed automata into flat UPPAAL timed automata by David and M oller [6] The direct use of this approach for the compilation of UML state machines is limited by the rather different notions of ....

....approach to extend UML models with relevant information for performance evaluation is described in [9] There, for restricted scenarios the analysis with queuing networks is suggested. In the context of the UML, several researches try to extend sequence diagrams to obtain time informations [2, 10]. For message sequence charts (MSC) a lot of approaches do exist and some of them also consider test generation (e.g. 1] However, sequence diagrams or MSCs can be used to specify requirements, but fail to also specify the reactive behavior of design entities like classes. The suitable notion ....
