....addressed in the mid seventies by several authors [36, 65, 24, 12, 17] After these initial papers, semantic integrity constraints in databases have been studied from various aspects. The results of the different research efforts are documented in hundreds of papers. Several dissertations, e.g. [12, 22, 29, 37, 58, 45, 44, 69], and chapters in textbooks, e.g. 70, 19, 23, 38, 63, 62] are devoted to semantic integrity issues in databases. There also are books like [47, 1, 21] that primarily focus on theoretical foundations of integrity constraints. Here we do not aim at recalling and commenting previous work in this ....
....is addressed in [35, 69] An analysis of aggregate constraints is presented in [61] The textbooks [3, 52] among others, include a general discussion on integrity enforcement by triggers. A general overview of semantic integrity constraints in distributed and or federated databases is given in [55, 45, 69]. The connection between integrity constraints and object objected database concepts such as subtyping and subclasses is discussed in [25, 4, 68] The latter work particularly deals with the inheritance of integrity constraints and shows that there are integrity constraints that cannot be ....
