Knowledge Acquisition for Clinical-Trial Selection - Nikiforou, Fink, Hall.. (2002)   (Correct)

.... the consistency of the modified knowledge [7, 27, 28, 29] Kim and Gil considered the use of scripts for building new knowledge acquisition tools, and created a system for evaluating these tools [9, 10] Blythe et al. designed a general knowledge acquisition interface based on previous techniques [2]. Musen developed the prot eg e environment for creating knowledge acquisition tools [14, 16] which proved e#ective for the development of knowledge systems, including the aids expert systems [20] asthma treatment selection [8] and elevator design rules [21] III. .... existing knowledge base may involve these additional steps: Browse and understand the existing class hierarchy in the ontology Browse and understand at least some of the instances, slot values and restrictions in the knowledge base Restructure the ontology and instances Blythe et al. [12] further identified some typical concerns that users may have when adding new knowledge to an intelligent system. Some of these concerns are as follows: User do not know where to start and where to go next Users do not know if they are adding the right things Users often get lost as it ....

Supporting Plan Authoring and Analysis - Kim, Blythe (2003)   Self-citation (Blythe Kim)   (Correct)

....in the future. While these approaches work well for simple tasks, as the complexity of the knowledge to be captured increases, direct knowledge authoring tools seem more useful. In the past we have built various knowledge editors and tools to enable end users to specify new knowledge directly [2,12,3]. Recently, we have been investigating approaches to helping end users author and analyze process models and plans, including process models in biology and plans in military applications. Often process models are quite complex, as shown in Figure 1. The figure illustrates a part of a process model ....

....problem solving results and simply showing the proof trace of the problem solver doesn t help users much. In most cases, the traces usually contain a lot of details users don t understand, although some KR languages such as EXPECT support a more natural way of explaining problem solving traces [2]. Figure 3 (b) shows the current KANAL interface that presents a critique of a COA built by an Army general. It has a warning that one of the preconditions failed, i.e. the given combat power ratio is not high enough to perform the given task. The explanation section in the middle shows how ....

.... knowledge, where reusable problemsolving methods (PSMs) can be assembled to produce taskspecific problem solvers, e.g. 4, 18] Moreover, PSMs can also be used to guide acquisition of domain facts, as they expect certain types of knowledge in order to operate, e.g. the Expect system [2], Protege derived tools [13] Less work has been devoted to capture of domain knowledge, and it is capture of this kind of knowledge that is the primary focus of our work. Existing tools have focussed only on entry of taxonomic ( isa ) knowledge and database style facts, e.g. WebOnto [9] or ....

....should be added in concert with factual knowledge such as new concepts, relations and instances. Constable includes tools for adding factual knowledge which were not described here for space reasons. Information on more of the tools, but with less detail on the use of expectations, can be found in [Blythe et al. 2001] . We are currently working on a number of applications of Constable. One is a travel planning tool that retrieves flight, hotel and other information from the web and uses constraints on partial travel plans to help users assemble an itinerary. Integrating Constable will help users specify ....
