....goal of bridging between resources and course content. We wanted not only to facilitate the linking of different media with different learning experiences, but to also provide a guided experience which would take learners through the map, and show how to use it through a process of self disclosure (DiGiano and Eisenberg 1995). We combined this notion of self disclosure with Plowman s notion of narrative guidance and the use of an explicador (Plowman 1996) She describes Bunuel s account at the turn of the century of people called explicadors who used to stand in front of the cinema screen interpreting for the ....

....Reasoning, Interfaces for Knowledge Based Systems. 1. INTRODUCTION Academia and industry alike have recognized the need to create extensible software in order to allow users to tailor applications to their particular needs and alleviate the programming effort involved in software upgrades [2, 7, 8, 19, 20]. Nevertheless, most extension mechanisms to date have focused primarily on the automation of repetitive tasks (through different techniques, such as macro recording and programming by demonstration [3] or on extensions that involve the use of script and programming languages. Commercially ....
.... Metaphors and metonymies have been chosen because they mirror a natural way of thinking about things we know little or nothing about [15, 16, 17, 21] Compared to alternative approaches that try to meet major EUP cognitive challenges by progressively disclosing commands and programming structures [6, 7], ours allows users to achieve changes without even knowing that what they want to do is innovative in any sense. This feature is also distinctive in comparison to most programming by demonstration approaches [3] However, not knowing about extensions may have undesirable side effects. ....

....Resources pane shows what tools and resources are used to achieve the learning goals or complete that week s tasks. Making connections between learning objectives and resource activities is supported by the interplay between these two panes. The Map operates on a principle of self disclosure [2] two guided tours are available, in which a member of the course team (whose head appears in the video pane, top left) talks students through different aspects of the course structure or resources, whilst simultaneously the map illustrates what is being said. The General Course Tour outlines ....

....is that it is very easy to change the properties of an object at design time, by just selecting the object and moving it or bringing up its property sheet. However, this gives no clue about how to write code to perform these actions at run time in a program. Our system will be self disclosing [DiGiano 1995] so that every time the user performs some action by direct manipulation or by demonstration, the system will show some example code that will perform the same action. This may also help the users learn the programming language, and will provide templates and code snippets which they can edit. ....
